17.9.22. - Command Line Scripting in Art

hrvatski
Open source software as an effective means to save money and increase knowledge.
Operating systems such as Windows 10 and macOS create a mindset where the user ceases to seek out the most useful or flexible way of achieving a task in favor of a default or most popular application, usually an application which locks out functionality until the user upgrades to a paid version or locks a user in to a bloated ecosystem using proprietary formats requiring ever more powerful and expensive hardware when only one elegant tool was needed.

This series of workshops seeks to address and offer solutions to escape that mindset by showing simple alternatives for the various tasks an average non-specialist user might wish to do such as basic image and sound editing, video conversion for uploading to social media all of which can be done quickly and more efficiently using open source software and the command line, saving time, effort and money.

The workshop takes place online on four dates divided into two modules, three hours each day. The first module is introductory and focuses on demonstrations of setting up and using the software, while the second module deals with advanced techniques and focuses on practical exercises.

Applications are mandatory:

Workshop Facilitators – Ian Keaveny and Vedran Gligo

Ian Keaveny, born and raised in the Midlands of the UK. Ian Keaveny works under the name crash-stop in rural Co.Offaly, Ireland. His work is based around the ideas of remix culture introduced by Lawrence Lessig and the reuse of old hardware and software trying to use only that which is open source publishing his work under a creative commons license. He has participated in national and international glitch art exhibitions online and sometimes IRL and is an associate member of Format C arts organization Zagreb. http://crash-stop.blogspot.com/

Vedran Gligo is a self-taught DIY hacker / artist / cultural event organizer living and working in Zagreb, Croatia. Umjetničko skriptiranje u komandnoj liniji

Otvorenim softverom do znanja i uštede

Voditelji radionica – Ian Keaveny i Vedran Gligo

U svojoj praksi koristi stari hardver i softver koji pogone isključivo slobodan softver a svoje radove objavljuje pod Creative Commons licencom.

Vedran Gligo –samouki DIY haker / umjetnik / organizator / projektni voditelj. U svojoj svakodnevnoj praksi snažno primjenjuje principe slobodnog softvera i osnažuje lokalnu zajednicu održavajući besplatne i otvorene digitalne radionice u zagrebačkom hacklab01. Djeluje u području slobodne kulture, promocije GNU / Linux sustava, glitch stvaralaštva, suradničke online umjetnosti velikog razmjera, nezavisne kulturne produkcije, (h)aktivizma (...).
